Fanfare, Recitative and Hymn: O God Our Help in Ages Past

Most all of us recognize this hymn tune upon hearing the first three to four notes – only to discover that what we are singing to ourselves are the first few words – “O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come…”

 

Bach-Vivaldi Concerto in A Minor/ 1st Movement

Bach loved the dance! And, so did the famous Italian baroque composer, Antonio Vivaldi (composer of The Four Seasons). In fact, Bach learned a great deal about dance music by actually copying the string concertos of Vivaldi and then, such as in this case, transcribing then for organ.

 

Bach at the E.M. Skinner Organ Final Console

Recorded on the occasion of Bach’s birthday, the Toccata in F Major was played on the final, permanent organ console, recently installed at the Church of the Transfiguration. This video includes some wonderful shots of the day the console arrived.
