In addition to holidays and the seasons of the church year, the Community’s liturgical calendar celebrates the lives of seventy-two saints in Feast Day Liturgy of the Hours services. As an expression of its ecumenical character, the Community has drawn all but one of those saints from the first ten centuries of the church’s history, that is, before 1054, the date that formalized what is known as the East-West or Great Schism, dividing the church over theological, ecclesiastical, and political lines into what became the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church.
A Lenten Experience: Choices of the Disciples — Friday and Saturday, March 10 and 11 at 7:30 pm. Gloriæ Dei Cantores and Elements Theatre Company offer vignettes of sacred music and written word. Lent is a liturgical season forty days before Easter, a season of penance, reflection and a renewal of Baptism, a time of the year lending us opportunity to stop, look and listen anew. It’s a time for the lens of our soul to take a look through God’s eyes, to see and hear new insights, to be reminded and freshly inspired. Through this renewed perspective, Gloriæ Dei Cantores and Elements Theatre Company give A Lenten Experience exploring the concepts of trust, betrayal of that trust, and the opportunity for reconciliation. When trust is violated, one is lead to separation and emotions of loneliness, misunderstanding, despair. If offered the opportunity for forgiveness, will it be accepted or rejected? Come experience the disciples Peter, Andrew, Judas, plus Mary, Mother of God, Mary Magdalene, and others whose lives were forever changed by their decisions in the face of mercy and forgiveness. This Lent, recall these journeys that reflect every man’s sorrows, sacrifices, or joys, that result from the choices we make when coming into contact with the power of forgiveness.
