VITA 2011: Life Sources of Art Tour
Tuscany- Norcia- Rome
October 13- 27, 2011
The tour begins at the opening of a “sacred art” exhibition in Chianti on Sunday, October 16th and a day-long symposium in Florence on Tuesday, October 18th– each celebrating the completion of the art program in the Church of the Transfiguration.
In Umbria, visit three sites, experiencing the birthplaces of Franciscan and Benedictine art; and in Rome, a glimpse of the birth of Christian art itself –focusing on less-visited gems of early Christian life and art.
The tour will be led by G. Thomas Ryan. As director for the Center for Pastoral Liturgy at The Catholic University of America, and then as liturgist for the architecture and arts at the Church of the Transfiguration, Tom has led over 25 trips to Italy over the past 30 years. All of them have been focused on the interrelationship of ecclesial life, art and liturgy.
